2. Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth in “He Got Game”
R: 9 SS: 9 D: 6.5 T: 24.5
Shuttlesworth’s story was amazing as it showed the tug of war he was the subject of by many people trying to exploit his basketball prowess. What makes the movie so realistic is, it centers around his life on and off the court and his psyche in many ways including his strained relationship with his father, his little sister, his aunt and uncle who take him in, his sneaky coach and his teammates. Jesus dominates on the court, but the lack of on-court action, in comparison to the plot building scenes showing his social interactions, are what hurt his placement on the list.
