New Endings and Old Beginnings – Letter from the Editor

I just returned to Toronto after a five month hiatus to Freiburg, Germany. I was so fortunate to meet and build relationships with all the great people that I met. I learned more about myself during that time than I thought possible.

Last day in Germany

I know life is about experiencing as much as you can during the few moments we have on this planet. But more so, I believe life is about the people we experience and few moments we have with them. After travelling through Europe, I can tell you my fondest memory will not be me beside some ancient ruins; it will be cherishing the friendships that were made during this time. What you can learn from surrounding yourself with quality people far exceeds what you can learn in a classroom or on a tour.

I have been back in Toronto for almost a week now, and I wanted to wait that week until writing this piece. It was important for me to overcome the jitters of returning to a city I have called home for the last three years before explaining how much this place means to me.

Yes, I could start by telling you about the Toronto skyline and how imposing it can be. Or I could go on about the Blue Jays or Argos. But that’s not what Toronto is about for me. It’s about the people you see as my friends and I regard as my family. Before I left I was lucky to have a group of quality people in my life.  You never exactly know how things will play out when you leave somewhere and return almost half a year later. Things aren’t exactly the same, but the feelings are.  From the people I work with, to my friends and roommates our attitudes have remained unchanged. I am fortunate to have these people in my life, supporting the decisions I make, even if they are the wrong ones.

All the best,

Jordan
