Goalies don’t score goals, they stop them.
Well in Cornell freshman, Mitch Gillam’s case, it’s the opposite.
In his college debut he became the eighth goaltender to score a goal. During the final frame of the Big Red’s victory over Niagara, Gillam was given the opportunity to shoot at an empty net (Niagara had pulled their goalie). Without hesitation, he fired it down the ice for a game-sealing goal.
But the best part wasn’t the goal.
Gillam is the first goalie I have ever seen who’s skated by the bench to high-five their teammates after scoring. And though Gillam won’t be setting any records for NCAA scoring, he will have this awesome highlight.
