Looking to catch a flick this weekend?
Check out our breakdown of new releases for Friday June 7th, 2013.
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Rhys Wakefield and Max Burkolder
Synopsis: America is ridden by overcrowded prisons and increasing crime rates. As a result, the government has sanctioned a 12-hour period where any and all criminal activity is legalized. All emergency agencies suspend help and people are left to regulate themselves. On this night, one family lets a stranger into their house. You know the rest.
What We Think: Ethan Hawke will either turn in an Oscar-worthy performance, or this movie will tank.
Starring: Craig Robinson, Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley
Synopsis: A young couple (Kendrick and Daley) are left in suburban Seattle after the rapture of billions to heaven. Despite the blood rain showers and talking locusts, they try to live a (relatively) normal life. The movies takes flight when The Beast (Robinson) moves to their neighbourhood. Naturally, The Beast is the anti-christ and the young couple must stop him from destroying the world.
What we think: This movie will have moments of hilarity. However, it will not have a gripping storyline or win an Academy Award. Check it out for some cheap laughs.
Starring: Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Joanna Garcia and Aasif Mandvi
Synopsis: Vaughn and Wilson are salesmen who lose their jobs to the digital world. Trying to prove they’re not dinosaurs, they get internships at Google. Before long, they’re competing with American’s brightest college grads for a position at the tech monster.
What We Think: This has the potential to be the comedy of the summer. We’ll definitely be checking this out.
Synopsis: Investigative reporter Jeremy Sachill looks into the rise of US special operations around the world.
What We Think: Like all documentaries, Dirty Wars is trying to sell an argument. Though its facts are subject to debate, it still looks very interesting.
