This weekend is destined to be a slug-fest at the box-office. Two highly anticipated films, Man of Steel and This is the End, will not only fight for the weekend’s top prize, but possibly the summer’s as well.
So, if you like giant lines and front row seats (or even if you don’t), here are our picks for this weekend.
Man of Steel
Starring: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russel Crowe
Synopsis: In the final hours before planet Krypton’s death, a father (Russell Crowe) desperate to save his child, sends his only son to Earth. Adopted by human parents (Kevin Costner and Diane Lane), the boy (now named Clark) realizes he has special powers. With this power comes alienation throughout childhood and his adult life. But when planet Earth is attacked by inhabitants from Clark’s previous home, he rises to battle invaders and save the planet.

This is the End
Starring: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and so many more.
Synopsis: In the middle of a party (thrown at James Franco’s house), Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many of their celebrity friends are faced with an oncoming apocalypse. The only way to survive is by finding supplies and staying barricaded in their home (against aliens, zombies and so much more).
What We Think: This movie has the potential to be the comedy of the summer. After all, its actors are playing fictional versions of themselves. That has to be good.
Starring: Paul Walker, Naima McLean and Gys de Villers
Synopsis: Recent parolee Michael Woods (Paul Walker) accidentally picks up the wrong rental car. Inside the trunk sits a female passenger, completely tied-up. The entire police force will do anything to stop him, and silence his “passenger” from exposing police corruption. Fighting his inner demons, Woods has no choice but to help the woman expose the corruption, and find a way to atone for his past.
What We Think: It’s Paul Walker in a car (granted, not a skyline), with action and police corruption. Should be a good thrill ride.
