CAVE Movie Picks – July 5th, 2013

movie picks July 5th - Lone Ranger

This weekend at the box office, it’s all about remakes, sequels and Kevin Hart.

Long Ranger and Despicable Me 2 will square off for the box office crown, while Man of Steel, World War Z and Monsters University rally for position.

Of course, if you want to avoid the hordes of rabid Gru fans and nostalgia fanatics, Kevin Hart’s Let Me Explain is a nice escape from the norm.

Here are our movies picks for this weekend.

Lone Ranger

Starring: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson and Helena Bonham Carter

Synopsis: A Native American warrior named Tonto (Johnny Depp) discovers ranger John Reid (Armie Hammer) after an ambush. They join forces to battle corruption in the west.

What We Think: The same guys that brought you Pirates of the Caribbean are behind this, so they had to throw in Johnny Depp. It’s not going to win any awards, but it should win some brownie points in the action/adventure department. We expect a fun, goofy western action movie

Despicable Me 2

Starring: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Russel Brand and Miranda Cosgrove.

Synopsis: After adopting three daughters in the original, Gru gives up his villainous days to become a good, evil genius. However, the peace is broken when he’s hired by the Anti-Villain League, a group dedicated to defeating a new evil that only Gru can conquer.
What We Think: Let’s face it, the first one was pretty funny and charming. Plus, it’s Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Russel Brand in the same movie. This should be a good bit of comedy, and those minions are always hilarious.

Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain

Starring: Kevin Hart

Synopsis: Filmed at New York’s Madison Square Garden, comedian Kevin Hart uses material from his 2012 Let Me Explain tour; an event which covered 10 countries and earned more than $30M.

What We Think: There’s no story line. This “movie” is for people who didn’t attend the actual show because: (a) the tour didn’t come through their town; (b) they wanted to avoid hecklers; or (c) they have no idea who Kevin Hart is. If you want some laughs, see this movie.
