Usually it’s a struggle to pick a few good movies to suggest on a weekly basis, especially after the past few weeks where we paired lesser-known movies with, you know, freakin’ Superman and world ending zombies.
All that changes this week is we have robot v. monster destruction, Adam Sandler and one-on-one battle needs for a balanced weekly film diet.
This is definitely going to be one of those “severely broke” weekends for all you movie fanatics out there.
Here are this weeks CAVE Movie picks:
(I suggest saying goodbye to your social lives and wallets.)
Starring: Charlie Hunman, Idris Elba, Rob Kazinsky and Charlie Day.
Synopsis: We always believed alien life would come from space, but instead, they came from the depths of the sea. The Kaiju are horrendous monsters that are rising to attack the cities of Earth, until we humans learned to create monsters of our own. The massive robots known as the Jaegers are tasked to defeat the invading monsters. Joining the minds of the two pilots in each robot, its up to the Jaegers to stop the Kaiju invasion.
What We Think: I don’t know about you, but a lot of people (myself included) grew up with Godzilla, Power Rangers and the general concept of robots and monsters beating the shit out of each other. Now imagine those corny suit monsters, in today’s visual effects; we got ourselves a popcorn flick epic right here.
Grown Ups 2
Starring: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Taylor Lautner.
Synopsis: The sequel to the comedy hit “Grown Ups”, Lenny (Adam Sandler) is back, but this time moving his family back to his hometown with his friends and their families. This time they reunite over the 4th of July weekend and realize wherever they go, craziness always follows them.
What We Think: Even if you’re not a Sandler fan, between Kevin James, David Spade and Chris Rock, it should be a funny time. Plus, how can you go wrong with slapstick humor.
Starring: John Travolta, Robert De Niro and Elizabeth Olin.
Synopsis: An American military veteran who lives in a remote cabin in the Smoky Mountains is met with some company when he befriends a European tourist. But things escalate when the tourist turns out to be a Serbian soldier out for blood, as the movie follows the two fighting it out across America’s landscape in the purest form of war.
What We Think: This has star power all around, as the two Hollywood legends square off in a one-on-one battle. Definitely going to be one of those tense, action packed movies you watch thinking “I’m never going to the woods ever again”.
