University can be stressful, daunting and trying. But it doesn’t need to be. Most people who finish university and start their professional lives say that university was the best time of their lives. As it should be. Whether you’re on your way into university this fall or on your way out next spring, here are a few things you can do to make your college life exciting, meaningful and memorable.
Most campuses are large and full of interesting history and architecture. Take the time to see all the fascinating stuff in and around your campus. Walk through every building. Try every pub and eatery in the area. Study at every library. Stalk girls in every faculty… discreetly, of course.
9. Pull an All-nighter
At some point in your college life, no matter how organized and posterior-retentive you are, you will be forced into a position where you have to stay up all night to study for an exam, prepare for a presentation or write a term paper. It will be a brutal experience. However, it will be an experience you will look back and laugh about.
8. Take an Easy Elective
For those terms where you partied a bit too hard, there’s that easy class that everyone’s been talking about, which can boost your GPA right back up. Hint: most likely in an Arts, Nutrition or Geography faculty.
7. Be Taught by an Interesting Professor
Every college has a superstar professor: some have won awards, some are funny, and others are hot. Find one that’s teaching a class you might like. (Ratemyprofessors.com is a good source!)
6. Get Involved
Whether you’re an athlete or a bookworm, take the time out to be active and involved while attending college. Play an intramural sport, take part in a college athletic event or just hit the field with your friends on a rainy day and throw a football around. Join a cultural club or a chess club. Attend a protest or protest against a protest. The list of things you can do while attending college is endless. Why not try a few of these out?
5. Be Open-minded
While at college you are bound to meet lots of different people from various backgrounds. You are likely to learn things about life you never knew were possible, both in class and outside of it. Don’t be rigid in your opinions or stubborn in your choice of majors. Be open to learning and changing. Let the college experience mould you into a better person. By having an easygoing and relaxed attitude you are likely to meet some great people. Moreover, you might find yourself taking a career path you never thought possible.
4. Make Lifelong Friends
If you attend a local college or university, then you will likely carry forward your friendships from high school. It’s great if you do, but also be willing to widen your social circle. Some of the people you meet in university will go on to become your best friends in life.
3. Fall in Love
Be bold enough to approach a girl. Any girl. Go up and ask her out. You will never get a chance to meet more girls in your life than when you are in college. Meet, date and experiment. Fall in love with a beautiful girl. She may end up being the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. Or, she may drop you after just one date. You will never know unless you try. If nothing else, you will look back and laugh at all the times you tried.
2. Get a Degree
It should be the reason you’re attending university in the first place. As we mentioned earlier, don’t be stubborn about your career path. You may have come into college wanting to become a doctor, but one film class could change all that. You may not even wish to finish your program and decide that you want to pursue something entirely different. Use your time at college to figure this out. Hopefully, the people you meet and the classes you take will make your decision easier.
1. Have Fun
At the end of it all, you should want to wish that you could go back and do it all over again.
